Description

CD147 (Basigin or Leukocyte activation antigen M6) plays pivotal roles in spermatogenesis, embryo implantation, neural network formation and tumor progression. CD147 stimulates adjacent fibroblasts to produce matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). CD147 is only present in vascular endothelium in non-neoplastic regions of the brain. Although present in tumor cells, CD147 is not expressed in proliferating blood vessels in malignant gliomas.
