Description

Polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1 (PTBP1) is involved in pre-mRNA splicing by binding to the polypyrimidine tract of introns. PTBP1 promotes the binding of U2 snRNP to pre-mRNA. PTBP1 cooperates with RAVER1 to modulate switching between mutually exclusive exons during maturation of the TPM1 pre-mRNA. PTBP1 is a marker of the perinucleolar compartment that caps on surface of nucleolus and contains RNA pol III transcripts and RNA-binding proteins.
