Description

Visfatin-1 (Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase) is a glycosyltransferase, participating the NAD biosynthesis. It catalyzes the condensation of nicotinamide with 5-phophoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate to yield nicotinamide mononucleotide, an intermediate in the biosynthesis of NAD. Visfatin-1 is the rate limiting component in the mammalian NAD biosynthesis pathway. Visfatin-1 is highly expressed in bone marrow, liver, muscles, heart, placenta, lung and kidney tissues.
