Description

Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF or Heparin-binding growth factor 2) is a single-chain polypeptide growth factor that plays a significant role in the process of wound healing and is a potent inducer of angiogenesis. The growth factor is an extremely potent inducer of DNA synthesis in a variety of cell types from mesoderm and neuroectoderm lineages. It was originally named basic fibroblast growth factor based upon its chemical properties and to distinguish it from acidic fibroblast growth factor. Recombinant Human FGF-b (FGF-2) produced in E. coli is a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 154 amino acids with a MW of 17.2 kDa.

Source

E. coli. Endotoxin level as measured by LAL is <0.01ng/ug or <0.1EU/ug.

Purity

Purity > 97% as determined by RP-HPLC and reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE. Protein Content determined by UV spectroscopy at 280 nm and quantitation on SDS-PAGE against a known standard.

Application Notes

rH-FGF-b is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50, measured in a mitogenic assay using quiescent NR6R-3T3 fibroblasts was found to be less then 0.1 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 3MIU/mg

Storage

Store at -20°C. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C. We recommend to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) for long term storage.
